Back Fire when changing gear

Does anyone else get a little back fire when they are changing gear, say from 2nd to third under heavy acceleration? (by the way how good is that anyway! wayhay!!!)

Hi,
I experienced the same symptons after my car was laid up for 6 months, 4 or 5 years ago but after a service and several spirited runs, just to clear out the cobwebs you understand, it dissapeared.
It could be a multitude of things. I did suffer a slight backfire when the dme relay was on the way out and also when the flywheel sensors needed replacing.
Sorry if I havn't been much help!

Cheers Glenn

My occasionally has a small backfire on a slow change up of gear used to slow down a bit after heavy accelaration!!, but otherwise runs like a dream, believe the backfire is a combination to the sports twin outlet exhaust fitted and excess fuel igniting in the exhuast.

If you have no other problems with the car, don't worry, enjoy

They shouldn't backfire if you are fully off the throttle as the fuel should be totally shut off. If you are slowing but keep a very light throttle, they will pop and burble a bit and this is particularly apparent with a sports exhaust - with a standard exhaust you have to sit on the passenger side with the window open to hear it.

Any big loud backfire is an indication that something is not right. Little pops are normal.

Thanks Richard,

My car is LHD and I hear a pop when the window is open mainly so from what you have said it sounds fairly normal then.

Just arrived back from my holidays and jumped at the chance to blow the cobwebs off! (2 weeks is far to long to be without Porsche)

After the warm up, I had a little fun on my favorite 'b' roads. When lifting off, I experienced a very loud backfire - it scared the sh**t out of me - thought I had another blow out!

looks as though I may have a problem.........
