Hi John,
From one New Forester to another life does not get better than that. I and the other half recently returned from a pilgrimage to Gmund. Had to do it before I fall off my perch. A bit of an anti-climax if I am truthful. One Austrian wooden hut looks much like another. We had hoped to see inside where much of Professor Porsche's personal items and original office equipment still resides. No such luck. Anyway the drive there was great and local hospitality wonderful. Interesting to read other mad hatters have given their mighty steeds a good blast in Germany. Where else? Track day straights are too short for maxing out. My car is a 1995 C2 Tip. No groans please. I am approaching 74 so an auto in traffic is less tiring on the muscles and joints and we need comfort which it offers in spades. Earlier this year travelling out to Stuttgart to a club factory visit the old girl was very happy at 150 mph (indicated). Returning from Gmund we tagged on to a 997. We ran together at 160 mph for some distance before waving goodbye as it took to a slip road. The point of this boast is that we were very impressed by this performance of a none too young, but modest mileage car (79,000), and it seemed there was more to come. Prudence raised her hand so we backed off after that thrill. The other thing was how incredibly planted the car was at this speed. It felt pushed down on the road strongly which says a lot about its aero performance. Oil consumption zero for two trips totalling 4,500 miles. Frankly I am amazed. For an old croak, a Porsche 993 is a magnificent piece of long distance transport and thrill machine. The engine is like a syphony orchestra at their best and the build quality, well, where else can you find it...nowhere I know of. Next up comes the annual service at Bournemouth PC ready for another year of indulgence.
