back seats

Hi there,

How many people use the back seats (for seating people !). Do most 3.2's come with lap belts. Are the seats the same in the coupe, the targa and cabrio?

Thanks.

Martin.

Hi,
I use the rear seats in my Targa for picking the kids up from school especially in the summer, but my car was originally fitted with lap belts.

I upgraded these by fitting the inertia reel belts from a later model, they were standard fitment around the time the G50 'box was introduced. (I think?)

The belts I fitted came from a coupe and they went into my targa, no problem.

I hope this helps,

Cheers Glenn

My 89 Cabrio SSE came with standard non inertia lap belts. There is even a retaining clip for the tongue of the belt in the side panel. And yes the back seats are put to use by my 14 yr old 5ft 6 son and 13yr old daughter and we have even shoehorned in my good lady's 23 yr old 6ft 4 son, although not at the same time ! We did have the hood down for him though !

Even if your car doesn't have lap belts fitted it's easy enough to fit them. The mounting points are already there underneath the carpet, all you need to source are the belts and the bolts. Fitting inertia reel belts to pre '87 model year cars is a different story, requiring modification to the parcel shelf and rear bulkhead.

And you can get them reasonably priced on ebay - currently item no 4608554543 is for a pair at only £5. Bet they go for more than that though.

Some early cars, believe 84-85 have no holes in rear bulkhead, later cars have them under the felt. You then need a pair of belts and the later rear shelf or slots.

Cab seats are smaller - they sit forward more to allow the hood down the back of them. Not a lot more but enough to hurt after a while. Coupe is better.

I'm currently trying to fit 3 point inertia belts in the rear of my 88 Cab, got two boys, 6mths and 18mths - so need to fit two, small, child seats - most of which need 3 point belts.
My OPC has given me a date of 17th Jan 2007 for delivery of original belts - HMM
I bought some 'universal' belts via e-bay - but these have turned out to be 4 point - so no good.
Finally, a trip to my local scrap yard and a pair off a Vauxhall Tigra seem to be the best I can get. There is one massive problem - I cannot get the hood down without the belts poking the rear screen. So it looks like 3-4 years with the hood up :-(

You need to talk to these people; Quickfit Seatbelts in Stanmore, they will know how to fix it. Forget the leave the roof up plan [;)]

AS above they helped me out on my 87 Cab , which has got orginal lap belts but when the top is up the 2 girls 11 and 13 use the 3 point and when the top is down you tuck diagonal shoulder belt out of the way and revert back to the lap one.Cost approx £120 but very safe when on fast roads.[:)]
