Back where i belong !!

Just picked up my latest 993 after being Porscheless for a couple of years, i remember them being good but had forgotten just how good they were. Its the 1997 Targa in Artic silver as mentioned in another thread, its everything that the advert said it was, only better in the flesh. I love the Boxster Red interior and it drives like new with impecable service history. However i very nearly walked away when i first saw it because sadly the dealer selling it through no fault of his own i suppose, had actually in my opinion de-valued the car by having the front bumper and front wings repainted ( due to stonechip damage ) sadly the bodyshop that carried out the work had not made a very good job of it, what they did was paint the full front wings edge to edge with colour, rather than blend the colour through the wings, which would leave the wing edges next to the two doors in original colour, thus ensuring a perfect colour match, now it has two front wings that are a shade darker than they should be.
Although my good lady said she cannot see the difference, the fact that i am a bodyshop owner and have a un-healthy obsession with 100% colour matching i almost left the car there. However credit to the dealer and his helpfull mechanic they agreed to a £ 1500.00 discount on the sale price ( bringing it down to respectable 25k ), with money in my pot to blend the colour through the front doors, so i should end up with one fully up together 993. Thanks for all your help and comments, i am now of to the bathroom to try and wipe this smile of my face and an early night so i can take it for another spin!!

Paul,

Welcome back to the fold, I trust you will be posting a few pictures of the car.

The information you provided on paint blending, made for interesting reading. Can all colours be blended in this way or just the lighter metalics? and how is the colour blended?

We have just had an excellent article in 'Porsche Post' about emissions from a 993 owner, it sounds like we need one on paintwork techniques.

Enjoy the new car and we look forward to seeing you at some of the events

Congratulations and enjoy.

Interesting point about the dealer respray. I had exactly the same thing with my Polar Silver car. The dealer had the bonnet, front bumper and front wings sprayed to cover up stone chips. The car looked to be two different colours to me but nobody else other than bodyshop people coul ddetect the difference. I lived with it for a couple of years but then when I had to have some minor accident work repaired, i had the whole fornt end resprayed with the colour blended through the doors.
