Right, Black car back from frond end repaint and looking uber sexy !
Problemo, it's clacking like a clacky thing, stethoscope is picking up the hydraulic cam lifter (s) on no 4/3 only ran for 10 mins to get home.
Do i fire her up and take it for a run and see if some oil will get in there and cure it or cam box off pronto ?
Best place to buy replacements, though as ever OPC will be first call.
Anyone cured this just by running and waiting for oil to get in there or do they just give up ?
Usually the car never stands for more than 2 weeks without being fired up, 2 months in the bodyshop has not helped methinks.

Just need a bit more driving / revs for the lifters to fully pressurise - very alarming noise though before it all goes quiet again.
 
+ 2 seen this in two very nice examples of the 944 t , one a freshly built sub 5k mile old engine that had sat for 3 months.

I would maybe for peace of mind do an oil change (in case there's some contaminate in there somewhere) and put in something nice like mobil 15/50 and then go for a run and before you know it the midget trapped inside your engine with a hammer will be nowhewre to be seen.

Cheers Peeps, will run it then, it is due an oil and filter change all materials in the garage ready to go on along with a fuel filter, pics will be posted once serviced, MOT'd and good to go, i have been fitting some Armour fend to try and save the new paintwork.
Miserable weather up here today, i was frozen at the fastlane car show Corbridge Nr Hexham.....................some serious metal there though, the old girl received lot's of attention even though there was soe seriously exotic stuff there.
The best for me was the Alfa Romeo 8C, had a good old chinwag with the owner, definately not a garage queen and used most days, never realised they are carbon fibre bodied also.
Biggest brakes ever seen went to a Bently Sportive ?, the discs must have been 16" diameter at least !
 
Get a wee Forte engine flush in Jim, I have found it good for getting crap out of the tappets. As an aside, that gold J plate Turbo that Steve Simkin has bought had 3 buggered tappets in the cam box when taken apart. You could push the centre pads in by hand. I have a big bag of good secondhand ones as new they are about £45 each. There are bog stock INA tappets that look very similar to Audi ones from the late 80s early 90s, would be good to compare as the Audi ones are £80 for a set of 8!

Could not get Forte, so fired some Wynns Hydraulic valve concentrate in and ran it for 20 mins, now quiet but the proof will be after standing for a while, a matey had the same problem and cured it with a additive then it came back ended up fitting 3 new.
I will give you a shout should i need a couple.

Forgot to mention, bet they are the same as the Audi ones you mentioned, what's happening with that Blue early 911 ?
