Looks like it was a 4x4 tow bar that hit my Lux front bumper......but they did not stop!

Just as well I was planning to spray it in the next few weeks as the lacquer has come off.

I thought it would have been PU like the turbo but if looks like GRP.

Is this standard?

Looks like a job for Diver944, or not?[;)]

Not just yet I'm afraid. I'm doing a further course on bumper welding and advanced panel repair in a couple of months but for the time being I am sticking to scuffs, scratches and chips etc.

I have to crawl before I can walk (running may be next year [:D] )

I am going to have a go myself. I have done a couple of complete spray jobs and a few bike tanks but this was a few years ago, but I have not used lacquer before.

I have all the equipment including a top of the range "bink" spray gun. As my turbo PU needs painting, I will practise on the Lux first.

I am just going to order the paint. I think I will need-

a primer suitable for GRP & PU (self etching)

cellulose base coat

Acrylic lacquer

I hear that modern lacquers are not very good compared to the one that use cyanide!

Any experts out there, feel free to correct me.

I could photograph progress if anyone is interested.

Mike

Acrylic is good as it is quick drying so you can cut back and build quickly. The difference I have found with cellulose is if it is damp it will bloom, but you can cut that back. Where -as acrylic goes milky, which is not good.
It's all preparation. If it is a straight colour, don't be afraid of runs they cut back. Metallic is the hardest to spray to get it even.
Don't hit it too quickly. Give the paint time to harden, otherwise you will burn/mark it.
Good luck. Pics would be good.

All this talk about spraying, perhaps I'll have a go at doing the front of Beaky. It's that bad I can't really make it any worse [8|]. Well, I could, but then I would just have to have it redone so I guess it would be worth a go either way. I mean, it's black! How difficult can it be? [;)]
