[]Can anyone help....please...

I recently changed my head gasket on my 1980 Le Mans, connected everything back. Charged the battery.

I tried to start the car and the engine turned over very slowly, and there was some backfire from the exhuast. I presume its because its flooded with fuel.

The battery with a voltmeter reads 11.8V, there is half a tank of fuel, there is backfire from the exhuast and then engine turns over extremely slowly[X(].

I turn the headlights on, turn the key and the headlights dim. I recharge the battery still no luck. I then try to jump start the car again still no luck. I can hear the fuel sender near the rear wheel buzzing away, there is fuel coming out of the injectors. I then check all the earth leads and all ok.

Can anyone help? Please....

The car was running before I changed the head gasket.[&o]

You may have set the cam belt up incorrectly. Look at the back of the engine for the timing slot and look for the tdc mark on the flywheel. Line it up with the edge of the index mark cast into the crankcase slot. Now check the timing mark on the cam. If these are in line then the tips of both cam lobes for No1 cylinder should be pointing uowards slightly. If this is correct then check that the distributor is timed correctly.
