Bad smell

Last couple of days I've noticed a smell like rotting vegetation when opening the front boot, today it was even noticeable when I put on the demister when I got in the car and everything was cold, so, I removed the plenum covers to check the drains and found them clear no leaves etc evident not much water either considering I'd just driven through quite heavy rainfall, I do know that the OPC's offer a cleaning nd disinfecting A/C service but just what does it entail? Probably not a lot for the price and it's a none standard service item so I take it that it means probably little more than a squirt with some sort of odour suppressant or some such. Anyone had this and how did you treat it?

The boot is dry and there is nothing lying in the intake plenum, just thinking of using some disinfectant to freshen things up.

Sorry Kev, can't really help with the bad smell but I'd definitely steer clear of the Porsche aircon service - from memory, it'll set you back more than £200..! Apart from a recharge it includes an interior bacterial treatment, but you can get the same full service elsewhere for less than half that price.

Do you think the smell might be coming from the washer tank area? If you have the PDLS it's a big tank.

Jeff

Remove old cabin filter , use a Comma aircon cleaner then put in a new cabin filter.

I go with Motorhead - had the same problem. Emptied and flushed the windscreen washer bottle and refilled with fresh. Job done.

As you said Jeff, the Porsche A/C service is not a value for money service. And the smell did coincide with the screen wash running to empty so now refilled with a fresh mix and the cabin air filter is new and dry so that's two items ticked off, in addition to this I have sprayed the plenum chamber with a good air freshener and left it overnight, today there was no apparent odour but I've ordered some stuff off Amazon to kill off any bacteria and so when that arrives I'll lift the cabin filter and give it a good squirt into the intake and when I get the chance I'll seek out the condenser drain tube to ensure that is clear. It's always possible that some roadkill has adhered to the wheel arch or got caught up somewhere and with any luck has washed off with the recent rainfall.

Received the A/C cleaner today an aerosol which is to be sprayed into the vents and intakes left for 15 minutes then the system warmed up without the A/C fan running ok to do that I had to set the A/C to off by holding the fan switch down until it said OFF in the heater control window once it was partially warmed up set it to auto and busy myself outside the car as it finished warming up, the smell while not unpleasant may not be a good thing to be sat in after all!

After shutting down and replacing the covers in the plenum I took it for a short run and the freshness in the cab was about as good as it can be, the stuff I used is Normfest A/C Conditioning Cleaner just £4.99 on Ebay from Eurocarparts so I'll see how it goes for now, no further smells about at present, apart from occasionally when my dog is asleep by my chair, but that's another story...
