Badge on nose panel help

Morning All!
im having trouble making the badge go on my nose panel. Its an '89 944 S2 and i bought a replacement badge, but the gasket doesnt fit it properly - i cant make the gasket stay on the outside of the badge and i also can't fix it properly. From what ive seen i just push the badge down into the tubes in the panel, then fish the gasket out around the edge properly. When i do that i either pull the gasket from one end to the other or pull the badge up. Can anyone who has done this tell me what im doing wrong or point me to a website that can help?

Alex,
Try warming the rubber gasket in hot water before stretching it over the badge.

An easier method I use is to stick the gasket to the badge using some very thin double sided sticky tape, strategically place all around the edge on the badge.

You could try glueing the gasket to the badge (but not superglue). I don't know where you would get the tape, the stuff I have is just under ½" wide. Look at Ebay item 330164810134 - similar sort of thing.

Cheers,

Last time I did this I used a similar method but with pritt stick - it was just tacky enough to hold the gasket & badge together while I mounted it.

brilliant stuff, i ended up cutting the inside edge of the gasket after id heated it up and used some double sided sticky tape, thanks for the help. My next issue though is putting the thing on the panel. The 2 prongs that stick out the back of the badge go into 2 tubes on the back of the panel, but the 2 little fixing devices (whatever they are) dont go over these tubes, so i dont see any way to actualy secure the badge down other than just pushing on it, which im not really happy with. If your not sure about the fixing devices, theyre in the picture here http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/bonnet_badge.htm

On my '89 car the badge does just push on. Looking at the pic I'd guess the extra clips are for putting on the padge pins from the underside of the panel (it's removable on a late 944, but it's not straightforward). The badge is the same type for all Porsches ('74 on or something) so those clips may not be needed on a late 944; mine certainly doesn't need them.

If you're worried about badge theft & want to fix it more securely it's worth bearing in mind how much it would cost to replace a bent nose panel and badge, vs the cost of the badge alone.

im not too worried about theft, im more worried about it coming off on the motorway and acting like a shuriken on any cars behind me

The pins aren't at 90º to the badge but slightly angled towards each other so it is held in place quite firmly by a slight pinching grip (not well described) but unlikely that the badge will come off without prising it.

Cheers,

The clips under the front panel were standard feature on 968. They will be sold along with the badge if specifically ordered for a 968 from an OPC.
Even with those clips I lost my badge ; the two pins broke under acceleration and the badge took off. I replaced it with a sticker - lighter and less likely to tempt thieves.
