Going to adjust the balance belt as it is whines really load, and was just wondering what size spanner i need for the tensioner pulley
Thanks

When unlocking the tensioner be sure to use a spanner on the flats that are provided on the tesnsioner stub. People have sheared the stub off before, when undoing it.

I didn't know that, but Porsche obviously designed it for a reason! I have done some googling and whilst the Jury is still out a little, there is a view that the vibration is only really a problem at low revs, and that at consistent high revs it should be ok. Hope so anyway as the 24S race car has the balance belts disconnected!

Paul, I did know that, but Porsche did not have to put in to the 944. They still designed the engine! Didn't Mitsubishi have the design rights from Lanchester?

Good point. Out of interest, was the balance belt on the 928 as well, or just when the engine was cut in half? Thread-drift. I love it! [:D]

Balance belt only on 944 engines ( and 924s) was done to smooth out the inherent roughness of a big 4 cylinder engine. Balance belts were patented by lanchester and patent bought by Mitsubishi.Porsche used under licence. 928 didn't need balance belt due to it being a V8 therefore better balanced than a straight 4. Interestingly all high power Mitsubishi's have the balance belts removed.

There are no balance weights on the 928, how would they get the top ones inside the "v"
