hmm....unless the garage knows a secret way and unless the S2 is completely different to the turbo this is a big job which imho is an engine out job. Are you using a Porsche specialist because if not your garage may be in for a shock. The upper balance shaft is a lot easier than the lower one, more so on an S2 with no turbo in the way so I wouldn't expect this one to take more than an hour or so and possibly a candidate for doing with the engine in the car. The lower one is a different kettle of fish altogether...with many things in the way, power steering pump mount, the engine mount too plus iirc some of the bolts are impossible to remove while in the car . Putting aside the parts that need removing whether the engine is out or not just to get to the balance shaft housings off I really wouldn't want to replace the bearings in the space available when the engine is in the car. There are a few other parts that may need changing while at it....the balance shaft top hats being most likely as these wear from rubbing against the oil seals, they also have a specific position in regards to end float that is usually sorted by very fine plastic shims, a new engine should only have one of these on each hat and then checked with a mic, garages both specialist and OPC have a bad habit of fitting extra shims instead of replacing the top hats, this is bad practice.
