Coming back from the unit this morning I was coming onto the dual carriageway at 60 ish and just started to accellerate when there was a bang and the revs hit the red line. Dropped the clutch immediately and coasted to a stop thinking the worst - cam belt/chain etc.
I then realised that the engine was ticking over perfectly so eased the clutch out to be greeted by an awful grinding noise and no drive. Now thinking that it could be a driveshaft so engage neutral and try again with the same results. I'm now thinking torque tube (or should that be driveshaft within the tube).
Anyway, I got the car towed back to the garage and we get it up in the air and sure enough all of the noise is coming from the middle of the car around the torque tube.
A couple of questions - Is it likely to just be the torque tube, or something more?
If it is the tube where can I get one?
Any suggestions of other things it could be - go easy on me [&o]
