OK, I know that this is nothing to do with Porsches, except that I'm not driving mine this week, so hope no-one is offended by me posting this.
A school friend and I are about to take part in the "Banger Challenge" which involves buying a pre-1980 car for less than £3,000 (harder than you would think) and driving 1,000 miles in 4 days in aid of Ukraine Relief Work..
Should you be interested in keeping up with this, there are short video diaries and (once we've mastered the technology) we plan to submit some too. You can see these if you go to the gofundme webpage and search for 'Banger Challenge'.
We're using a 30,000 miler 1972 Triumph Toledo and start on Monday by driving up by Alston and Brampton to Loch Ken in Dumfriesshire. Tuesday takes us up to Strathpeffer, probably by the A702 and A9.
Wednesday the plan is for coffee in Lossiemouth and lunch in Peterhead before heading down to near Perth via Braemar (which could be a long day).
Head home on Thursday by way of Gretna Green.
Any tips re. routes welcome from the Scottish contingent – bearing in mind my mate reckons he has done 60mph once in the car but doesn’t fancy doing it again!!
Should anyone be kind enough to consider donating, do make mention of PCGB, we might as well raise our profile too.

Completed this Challenge yesterday. Relatively uneventful; had a fan belt go at Strathpeffer on Tuesday night about 4 miles from our hotel. Hadn’t been able to get one before we set off, so a bit of hanging around in the dark for a taxi. My mate rang his son the next morning and got him to ring round suppliers in Inverness. He found the only belt in Inverness - delivered by taxi and fitted with assistance from a large wheelbrace, despite a seized bracket - so no adjustment possible or necessary, thankfully.

3 teams have now completed their runs and £7,000 (plus 1,000 dollars) raised so far.

There is a nice selection of photos/videos of our run on the GoFundMe page (Banger Challenge, as above) accompanied by a “song track” composed by my mate’s brother - if anyone is interested in the slightest.

Saw quite a few Porsches but none to speak to sadly.
