Bar Reading on Turbo

Just wanted to know what should the bar reading go to under heavy acceleration as mine is only reaching just over 1.0

Thanks

The standard level of boost is 0.75(ish) bar over atmosphere and the in-dash pressure gauge is measuring absolute pressure and not boost pressure so it should be reading 1.75(ish) bar. The in-dash pressure gauge is not supposed to be that accurate, although I initially set my max boost pressure against the in-dash gauge and when I fitted a seperate aftermarket gauge it was bob on.

It's best to test your boost level on a slight gradient in 3rd and 4th gear and you should hit max boost around 3200 to 3500 rpm. If you're not achiving full boost is is most likely to be your wastegate housing being cracked thereby preventing the exhaust pressure to build upto where it should be due to exhaust gasses leaking through the cracked housing. Mine was like this and as soon as I replaced the wastegate for a dual port wastegate I noticed a huge improvement in boost and I got 240bhp at Weltmiester when max boost set to std levels with stock chips so even a good OEM single port wastegate is costing you 20bhp (mine is a 220bhp car).

Check your wastegate housing - you can see it from under the car. The housing is cast and has cooling fins cast into it. The cracks happen in the valley of the cooling fins.

If the dash gauge is working properly and you are only just getting over 1 bar then you're not really getting any turbo boost at all and you have a lot more power to come from your car [8D]

I would check over the engine bay to see if any obvious pipes have come loose, then check the big rubber intercooler pipes for splits. Then read the Wastegate troubleshooting section in the Garage Shop Manual at www.clarks-garage.com

After that take it to a good independant and look forward to lots more boost [:D]
