Basalt Black/Cocoa Leather???

Guest

New member
Two days ago I placed an order for a new Boxster S in Basalt Black with Cocoa leather (black hood).

The cocoa is my wife's idea and I am really unsure whether this will look spectacular with the black paint or look a bit odd.

I should point out that we have specced the car quite highly and plan to keep it long term so we have considered the fact that we could limit our re-sale market.

I'd really appreciate any feedback on this as we still have time to change our minds.

Thanks

Graham

We are sold on the cocoa, but will have GT Silver paint. Some of the impact will be lost on a black car, especially the hood..

I've seen a parked black 987 with cocoa leather and black hood....looks excellent, and much better imo than a black interior.

Come on your Spurs...![:D]

IMHO if you have a black car it just has to be Blk/Blk/Blk. If in doubt go and see one in the flesh that has a brown hood. If you can't find one you may have answered all your questions.

However if your are buying it for yourselves and not the next person on the list of registered keepers then go for it!

JCB..

Good choice.

If you go for one of the silvers or blacks them, IMO, a striking interior colour can look really terrific.

At launch, Porsche regularly use Terracotta (formerly Boxster Red) with silver, which looks nice and is very photogenic. In fact Terracotta goes extremely well with Basalt, but so does Cocoa.

I had a metallic black Z3 with beige leather interior; it always received favourable comments. I think that Cocoa is not a good match with Basalt - but goes well with GT Silver; Stone Grey would also match Basalt.

Mmmm.. Thanks for the feedback. I think I need to see a boxster or 911 in this colour scheme in the flesh.

Would welcome further feedback if anyone else has an opinion.

Cheers

As a general rule, get out to as many OPCs as you can while the order is still spec-changeable. Sit in everything and take a good look.

It was only after months of doing so that I walked into an OPC and saw a 996 cab sitting gleaming in the middle of the floor, gasped, and thought "that's it!". Until then I'd had a "shortlist" of possible colour combinations that was as long as my arm; after then the shortlist had one option!

And yes, I still love it 2 years on. [:)]

Have a play on this website and see what else you can find [;)]http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/gallery/

Scroll down to "Interior" and check out the cupholders. On the prefacelift 986 for the UK there were none and yet on this North American spec car they are there in place of the climate control - those moving to the centre console. Was that standard in the US?

Those cupholders were an option over here. they replaced the ones that clipped in to the air-vents.
I think they are standard Audi parts.... With a price premium of course [;)]

is that the cocoa? I thought that the cocoa looked better than I had thought it would with the GT silver on the 550's; looked good - the cocoa was quite a dark brown.
personally not so keen on the boxster red; it seems to look more like terracotta or maybe it was and I'm doing boxster red a disservice[8|]

Andrew that was Natural Brown which is the closest I could find on that website as its not been updated for yonks [&o] but it would give a rough idea of what Met Black & Brownish leather look like next to each other [;)]

Graham, I have to confess that when this colour scheme was first mentioned I wasn't convinced. But having thought about it, I think it will look quite classic. Enjoy.

Theres a silver one for sale here in Ireland with the cocoa leather - it looks incredible.

Dunno about it in black - I think it might be just not black enough to blend in - and not bright enough to stand out. Personally for black cars the best option is beige or black leather.

I had a black saab with beige leather which looked great, but I had a black mercedes with black leather and drug dealer alloy wheels that looked great :)

Anyway, its all personal choice.

Remember, this cocoa/silver combination was the very colour combination of the limited editions make in 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 550 Spyder. Don't go for too many opinions, if you like it then go for it but as everyone has mentioned do have a look at one in flesh first.

All the best.

Personally, I prefer either a dark exterior colour with a light interior or vice versa. I'm not convinced about black with cocoa, or anything with cocoa for that matter. When I ordered my Boxster 550 here was never any question that I would have the silver/cocoa combination and I think the majority of buyers thought the same.

As others have said it's a matter of personal taste but given a free choice of colours, black and cocoa wouldn't be my choice.

Hmm, not sure the pic is Natural Brown...it looks closer to Cocoa.

My car is natural leather, which is a lot lighter:

Not sure if the link will work.
