My 2001 Boxster S battery is showing signs of failing. I have looked for the OEM battery in UK and found that it is not marketed here. Email to/from OEM (Moll) confirms this. Found top of range Varta option offered for £90.90 fitted. Recent promotional material from OPC for older cars included lists of service charges etc. and also a fitted price for a battery of £230 !!

What have others done with this problem please?

Many thanks

Rang a mate who works for a major battery distributor and collected one from him in a layby for £20. The difference of £70.90 from your quote must be for the warranty[;)]

The remaining £140 from the OPC price is obviously their rate for 5 mins labour[:D]

Bosch Silver Series

Used the same for my '01 Boxster S. Think the Bosch part no is 580122072. 4 yr warranty. Paid 89.99. Simple DIY fitting (read the posts on the forum about disabling the alarm, something about key in the ignition etc etc..)

I recently bought a Bosch Silver 7HN (75AH) battery for my 964 which looks ideal for the boxster aswell (it's about time I changed it). Does anyone know if this is the recommended one?

ETA: With a bit of searching on the net I think I've answered my own question. It seems that the 'stronger battery' in the boxster is an 85Ah job which would be a Bosch Silver 8B.
