I have a 997 4s gen1 and I need a new battery, should I buy from porche at £195 or a battery of same spec on eBay for £77 with5 year
Warranty.Any views on this would be appreciated.

I had to get my battery replaced recently. Its under Porsche Warranty but since the battery was so old, they wouldn't cover it (fair enough really),

I asked Porsche Assist if they would continue to warrant the car if it had a non-Porsche battery and they said yes, the only thing they wouldn't cover was the battery itself (so I made them add this onto the notes for my car - just in case...).

The AA bloke (representing Porsche Assist) took me to a place called Midnight Motors in Wembley, I got the exact same spec of battery for £106 with a 5 year warranty on the battery.
Hope this helps...

Just replaced mine last week with battery from euro parts at £82 with £5 refund on old battery. Everything working fine now. I did plug in my battery conditioner and did not loose any info on car while I was changing it.

I was in the same situation last year, roadside recovery and only place open was Halfords, I went with the most expensive battery that could fit and paid about £120. No shame no gain :) now I have Halfords battery and Halfords black grill mesh on my £28k car!

ORIGINAL: Frenchy

Porsche OEM are crap, as told to me by my local OPC parts guy !!
Mine's done 5 years and, touch wood, still going strong. Maybe ir's the way they are looked after - or not - but it does seem that there are better makes available!

I'm puzzled.

When you say you asked Porsche Assist, did you mean Porsche Warranty? If it was Porsche Assist, what gives them the authority to vary warranty T&C? I'm interested in the answer because my battery is 6 years old and I'm expecting it to fail in the next year. I was going to buy original Porsche to maintain my extended warranty but, if that is no longer required it makes life much easier, and cheaper.

However, thinking about it, whilst it may not invalidate the warranty whilst it is valid, will an OPC extend the warranty if it has an non Porsche battery?

Forget what Porsche Assist say. In theory you're not allowed to have a non Porsche battery to keep your warranty valid or to get a new warranty.

I just bought a 74ah replacement battery for my 928S4 ( it is 24 years old ) for £80 from ebay, it`s a direct replacement and cost far less then my old Jeep!
