Battery Bargain Of The Year

My original Porsche Moll battery met its death knell yesterday - 2yrs and 11 months old, but fortunately i took the extended warranty and the RAC were with me in under an hour (very good when you are alongside Kielder Water in the middle of nowhere !) to get me going.

So a ring round this am...

EuroCar Parts - Bosch 80Ah (420/720) - £82 + vat
Porsche Centre - Moll 80Ah (380/640 ?) - £121 + £15 for acid :ROFLMAO: + Vat - £144 after pcgb discount
Local tyre depot - Varta Dynamic Blue F17 - 80Ah, 740A cold crank - £87 all in

Wait for it...

Costco...

Bosch Sliver Plus Series..

S5 010 model - 85Ah, 800A cold cranking

£19.98 + VAT

grand total of..

£23.48

this is not a scam, thats the price on their system, the price on the battery rack label and the price i just paid for mine.

Not old stock either - apparently Bosch have struggled to sell them, reduced their prices and costco have done their bulk purchase buying power.

All silver series plus batteries are slashed in price at costco.

If your 986/996/987/997 is 3-4 years old then chances are your battery is about to die - get down to Costco and have yourself a reserve !

Great spot I was in costco only yesterday,

Mine seems ok at the moment, presumably it would be ok to buy one and keep it for when the current one expires at that price

Usually would have bought from Costco but they didn't have any last month when I needed it, so got it from EuroCar Parts [:(]

I too took the advantage of extended warranty and the RAC guy came and changed the battery at home (didn't have a choice as the hood had locked up and needed a donor battery to open) and gave me a nice heavy-duty battery bag for disposing the old (he couldn't take it away as they only do so if they supply the battery).

I think thats the battery i bought from Costco to replace mine about 4 months or so ago. Its was a lot more money then. Around £88 if i remember correctly, so you did get a great bargain there!

I noticed them in costco a while back and thought i'll get one from here when the time comes, now it looks as though the car will be gettin a new battery regardless ,great spot.

you need membership but pretty easy to get

and well worth it...
for your car: usually the cheapest for Michelin tyres; Car batteries; Microfibre cloths; Mobil 1 oil
for home: if you bulk buy then great for everything (but then so is Makro)

Ok, so I went to Costco Gateshead after work this evening, the guy in the tyre bay knew exactly which battery I wanted but said they were such a good price they'd sold out. Apparently someone came in yesterday bought all their stock of that particular battery to re sell on Ebay[]

On a slightly different note asked him to price me up a pair of 295/30ZR18 Pilot sport N1, £285 each fitted, said he could get the N1s or the pilot Sport 2 N2s for the same price. If I've got N1s all round now do I have to replace with the same or can I fit the N2s on the rear axle,

C4S not sure if that makes a difference

Just for info as you're local Ash, i have just replaced the rear tyres on my c4 cab but stuck with the continentals. Went to Hi-Q at Consett and they came down from £550 to £392 to match an internet price (fully fitted) Might be worth trying them when you have a price for them to beat?

If you are not tracking or racing your Porsche and just a regular road driver then yes one of the recommendations is you can get away with same axle change but don't confuse the N numberings, yes you have to stick to same N numbers on the same axle too but more importantly you will be having Pilot Sports (1) in the front and Pilot Sports 2 as your new rears and they are a complete different technology and thread patterns. You can read more about N numbering here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=26&

Thanks guys having read the articles........

The fronts are nearly new Pilot N1s looks like I need to replace rears with the same this time and will have to consider N2s when the next change is due roughly 1 set of fronts to 2 sets of rears. Does anyone know if the tread pattern is different between N1 and N2 pilot sports the Michelin web site doesn't show.

Julie- thanks for tip I'll see if they'll do a deal on the above, car looks fab following Glynn's makeover pity you'll be away for Raby castle, I'm sure you'd have been in with a shout in the show and shine.[:D]
