Battery Bargain Of The Year

My original Porsche Moll battery met its death knell yesterday - 2yrs and 11 months old, but fortunately i took the extended warranty and the RAC were with me in under an hour (very good when you are alongside Kielder Water in the middle of nowhere !) to get me going.

So a ring round this am...

EuroCar Parts - Bosch 80Ah (420/720) - £82 + vat
Porsche Centre - Moll 80Ah (380/640 ?) - £121 + £15 for acid

+ Vat - £144 after pcgb discount
Local tyre depot - Varta Dynamic Blue F17 - 80Ah, 740A cold crank - £87 all in

Wait for it...

Costco...

Bosch Sliver Plus Series..

S5 010 model - 85Ah, 800A cold cranking

£19.98 + VAT

grand total of..

£23.48

this is not a scam, thats the price on their system, the price on the battery rack label and the price i just paid for mine.

Not old stock either - apparently Bosch have struggled to sell them, reduced their prices and costco have done their bulk purchase buying power.

All silver series plus batteries are slashed in price at costco.

If your 986/996/987/997 is 3-4 years old then chances are your battery is about to die - get down to Costco and have yourself a reserve !

hi - just called watford and they say that battery has been discontinued ? which branch did you get it from ? am interested in one for my 996 C4S

ouch! would cost me £60 in fuel just to get there and back!

actually, having filled up our gas guzzling 4x4 over the w/e, better make that £160!!!

shame as i'm interested in the battery.... i googled the S5-010 part number and it comes up as a diesel battery - is that b/c its a higher ampage than a normal battery ?

Just rang (twice to be sure) Costco Watford and they have no special offers on Bosch Silver + or any other flavour batteries.
S5010 is a reference number they don't recognise at all and to cut a long story short I said do you have any Silver+ for a Porsche and they came back with S 5007 for a 911 £71.66

So getting a Bosch Silver+ for a Boxster at £23.48 from Costco was not only a result but as rare as rocking horse poo according to Watford [&o]

I don't know why people mess about, you can get Calcium Battery (HCB) Range from Halfords for only £99 inc VAT.
4 year warranty with 30% more starting power.[8D]

It's a perfect fit in my car, I had my car tested the other week by local indy and after testing the battery he told me "that's the best battery he's ever seen" (good reading on his battery tester device).

So rare its listed on Bosch's website..

The S5 007 is a replacement for the smaller battery fitted to earlier 996s and 986s, Porsche offered a 80Ah battery on later cars. The S5 010 is slightly bigger again at 85Ah, much better cold cranking power at 800A rather than 640A for the Porsche Moll battery. The Bosch is also 15mm less tall, not sure its any lighter, its still weighs about 20Kg !!
