Battery Bargain Of The Year

My original Porsche Moll battery met its death knell yesterday - 2yrs and 11 months old, but fortunately i took the extended warranty and the RAC were with me in under an hour (very good when you are alongside Kielder Water in the middle of nowhere !) to get me going.

So a ring round this am...

EuroCar Parts - Bosch 80Ah (420/720) - £82 + vat
Porsche Centre - Moll 80Ah (380/640 ?) - £121 + £15 for acid :ROFLMAO: + Vat - £144 after pcgb discount
Local tyre depot - Varta Dynamic Blue F17 - 80Ah, 740A cold crank - £87 all in

Wait for it...

Costco...

Bosch Sliver Plus Series..

S5 010 model - 85Ah, 800A cold cranking

£19.98 + VAT

grand total of..

£23.48

this is not a scam, thats the price on their system, the price on the battery rack label and the price i just paid for mine.

Not old stock either - apparently Bosch have struggled to sell them, reduced their prices and costco have done their bulk purchase buying power.

All silver series plus batteries are slashed in price at costco.

If your 986/996/987/997 is 3-4 years old then chances are your battery is about to die - get down to Costco and have yourself a reserve !

At that price you could buy one just in case!! "A bargin is something you don't really need at a price you can't resist!"

ORIGINAL: Alan Armstrong Another reason to be a Cayman owner....they dont have a battery! (According to BLACK80XSA)[:D]
Mine does, and I have to keep it plugged into a battery conditioner or it dies very quickly

I tend to use the croc two weeks out of four. So far the battery has lasted longer than the engine. OPC Swindon charged £7664 for the new engine plus labour. Battery is cheaper wherever it comes from.

I haven't been on the forum for a wee while and seem to have missed something. What new engine and why? I take it the engine was at your cost? Sorry to hear that, hope your car was returned without scratches, unlike mine, although it was fixed at their expense.

A perfect illustration of the value of the extended warranty. [:)] Started to use oil, smoked on fire up and it rattled. Dick Lovett (aka OPC Swindon behaved perfectly and were most helpful in their loan cars. I won't be buying a Carrera 4S but I did enjoy a yellow 2.7 Boxster) I ran the first one in by the book but my farmer chum who buys vast great tractors at £12million squid each insists that when he runs them in they break but when he rags them from day one they go on forever. Since it is now on the E W, guess what I did....

Would you believe it, my battery gave up the ghost yesterday. Luckily Costco in Westhills still had stock. I phoned but they insisted they didn't have the correct battery for my car, so I measured the original and then went up and measured their stock. It fits fine. Looking at the tray where the battery fits there seems to be a couple of other fixing holes so maybe a bigger battery could be accomodated if need be. The battery was fine on friday but I just got home from a few weeks away and thought it better to fit the accumate overnight, Saturday morning there was no life in it. I'd have to agree with your farmer mate Alex, I didn't really run in the car but I never thrash it from cold. I used to be a tractor mechanic and I'd see the same story, mollycoddled machinery would be more problematic. Treat them hard but fair and they work all day. Bit like a woman[;)]

I still have sleep in my eyes, so forgive me if I am wrong, the poster was saying how glad he was by taking the extended warranty. However by buying a non Porsche battery he no longer will be able to get that warranty [8|]
