Battery change

Hi all
I went to my garage today to take out my boxster (2.7 987 2006/2007) and found there was not enough power to turn the starter motor (even though left on a ctek charger) I just got a clicking noise and error messages from the Psm etc.
I assume my battery has finally failed ( it is the original battery). I have ordered a Bosch S4, which I am expecting mid-week.

Is there anything I should be aware of when changing the battery? Re especially the alarm and tracking device? Is there a procedure I have to follow?
Any resets I have to do afterwards? I don't believe I have the radio code so I'll have to get that from a Porsche centre I presume.

It is a CTEK [:D] [:D] sorry I cant answer your other question but no doubt help will be on the way soon
 
Ian, If you still have some power, I think that if you keep your CTEK battery conditioner connected you shouldn't lose the set-up. I seem to recall that you need to insert the key and turn to the first position to avoid the alarm going off. Then disconnect the battery (negative first), remove and replace with the new one and reconnect (postive first) after which you'll need to reset the windows, throttle, steering angle sensor, etc. [ http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=770011 ]. For your age of car the radio code may well be embedded in the DME. If not I think it should be in your car handbook. Jeff
 
So I leave the charger connected, turn ignition on to first position, then change the battery. Any other comments?
 
Don't forget to leave the driver's door open Ian.....just in case the system somehow decides to lock you out. The CTEK is a very low current device and if you have the bonnet and door open may struggle (although you could tape up the lamp microswitches). If available, better to use either a slave battery or a proper battery charger. Rather than connecting to the battery cables, you could use the red positive terminal in the fuse box and the door hinge for the negative earth (see "Emergency unlocking of luggage compatrment lid" in your driver's handbook - circa P197). And just to say that if you maintain power, you shouldn't need to reset the windows, throttle, etc. Good luck..! Jeff
 
I chickened out and disconnected the CTEK, so I'll have to do the setting stuff when I take it out. Not the easiest battery I've ever changed, mainly because it's so heavy! Will the old one have any scrap value?
 
I doubt that the old battery will have any scrap value Ian, but it needs to be recycled properly. Just drop it off at your local recycling centre. Follow the procedure given in my first post [#3] to reset everything when you're back in the Boxster then you should be good for another 3 years or so. Jeff
 
Took my old battery to a scrap yard on Tuesday and got £12.00 for it. Not much but all helps.
 
Well the lat battery did last 8 years... The reset up all done, quite straightforward really. I pass a scrapyard on the way to the recycling centre, so just need to chose where to take it to. (The battery, not the car!)
 
I just had a problem that others should (maybe are) aware of. My battery went flat because a nameless person left the lights on. Put new battery in and all seemed to be well but she stalled and stopped with half a tank of fuel on the gauge. After much searching local independent found that tank was empty despite the gauge . After resetting the gauge all is well……..apparently the setting was upset by lack of electric power.
