Battery Changing

Hi,

Can anybody please confirm that the procedure for changing the battery on a Boxster 2002 3.2S is the same as for the 911, ie, drivers door open, key in and ignition on, leave door open, disconnect battery, install new battery and connect, open drivers door window all the way down then back up again to reset position, turn off ignition and key out - job done and alarm kept silent? Thanks.

Also is the alternator diode pack a DIY replacement job or best left to the experts?

Yes and yes it's a DIY.

The actual diode is very easy to replace and is a 5 minute job (I've done it myself). I know of others who have removed the alternator itself and didn't find it too hard just cramped.

Isn't there something to do with steering angle calibration for the PSM? Or does that happen automatically?

There is a good DIY for the regulator pack on Pelican Parts: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-996-997-forum/408495-alternator-repair-regulator-replacement.html

It is only the 987/997 where you might possibly get a steering angle sensor calibration error after removing the battery.

ummmm... i didnt do any of that stuff... i just unplugged the old battery and plugged the new one in.

The only thing that happened was a PSM warning light which went out after a couple of minutes.
