battery charger

Hi Tony, Just to say that the CTEK is a battery conditioner - with very low current level - not a battery charger, so it would take a long time to recharge a battery completely [24 hours?]. So, it's a great device for just maintaining the battery. Jeff

hello all
I've recently bought a Porsche branded ctek charger. I know that these are trickle chargers but can anyone tell me how
long it takes to add say 1 volt to the battery charge? Ive used it recently in two 5 hour periods and the battry voltage has only increased by
a mere 0.4volts. Is this what I should expect from this charger? Thanks.

Hi Maurice What make and type of battery charger do you use? Over the past 3 weeks I have had the charger connected on and off for some 40hours and the battery voltage now reads 12.37volts,is this reasonable? Thanks

Tony, In answer your question about battery voltage. If your battery is in good condition, the voltage should be between about 12.4 and 12.7 volts [ignition off]. A reading lower than 12.4 volts means that your battery needs to be charged, so it sounds as though your battery is OK. A functional charging system should produce between 13.5 and 14.5 or more volts while idling, which is worth checking. Hope that helps. Jeff

I have one of these for each of my cars and had them for many years. A combined charger and conditioner so has plenty of oomph if the battery is flat needing a full charge and automatically switches into conditioner mode so you can leave it connected as long as you like. The only advantage of a conditioner only unit is the small size in comparison. Mine hang from ropes from the ceiling with the bottom at bonnet level so I can park up and connect with the bonnet ajar. I always push the bonnet latch closed before letting the bonnet down when connected so the light in the car does not remain on. Ian.

I am using a Maypole MP7423 charger. It charges the Battery with 3.8A on a normal charging curve up to 14.4V and then switches into trickle charge with 13.2V. Also, it shows the Voltage and the current charge status of the Battery.
