Has anyone any experience of the ctek mxs 3.8 or the original Porsche charge-o-mat. Which one would be best for a 2004 C4S? What are the differences?

Hi I use a Ctek MSX 5.0 on my 997 S. I actually had an email back from the technical after asking if I should get the 5.0 or 7.0 as I wanted to sometimes use the Cigarette Socket and was worried about the electrics. Here was the response.

"I'd recommend MXS 5.0. MXS 7.0 only extra benefit is power supply if changing a battery over. Also if going through socket there is a better margin if fuse is sensitive.regards Peter"

That's what I bought and it works great.

Ctek and Porsche battery conditioners appear to be exactly the same, except the Porsche one says "PORSCHE" on it and costs more than twice as much. I've used a ctek since 2007 and always have it connected (except when I'm driving my Porsche). Never any problems. Always starts on first turn of the ignition key, however cold the weather or however long the car has been in the garage (max 4 weeks while away in the USA). And your battery will last longer.

I have a 2003 C4S and use the CteK MXS 5.0. I connect it through the cigarette lighter and it works perfectly. When the car is in the garage it's plugged in. The only slight downside is that the cables are a tad short, but I bought an extension cable from Ctek for £11 off amazon.

I use both a CTEK connected direct to the battery on the C4s and a Porsche cigarette lighter one on the 986. Both work really well.....

I have the CTEK MSX 5.0 on my 2003 996, plugged into the cigar lighter socket. This socket is always live so if, like me, you plug in a satnav, remember to either switch the unit off or pull the plug when parked for a few hours.
