Battery charging

I have a plug which fits the 13 point socket by the towing hitch which connects to a Ctek charger. I used this when I had a Range Rover and it was excellent for keeping the battery fully charged in winter, without having wires sticking out from under the bonnet or through a window. It meant the vehicle could be securely locked while charging.

Has anyone else used a similar method of charging as I assume the towing socket is also permanently live on the Cayenne.

Me too .
Fatal if you do not keep it on trickle when laid up for a few weeks .
And dont think you can jump start it with another battery .
Porsche had a job starting mine with a 900 amp booster.
I dont see any danger fitting something like a trickle through the
Trailer connection after all we are only talking verlow amperage ?

The Ctek is a trickle charger so the voltage never reaches levels higher than what the alternator produces, so I feel happy it is safe to use. Did no harm to the Range Rover so as long as the socket is permanently live I'll give it a try when the battery gets low.

Thanks for the help.

I found a problem with using the trailer hitch supply, unlike the Range Rover there does not seem to be a live connection unless the trailer hitch ball is connected. So it looks like using the under bonnet connections are the best way to go, pity as I found using the trailer power socket suited my needs perfectly.

Anyway hope all Cayenne owners had a good Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

Got a Ctek for Christmas - thanks for the heads up, mine will get pressed into service for the 911, garden tractor, spare battery before the Cayenne though.
