My son has a 997 4 GTS and has it on a trickle charger the type with croc clips the problem he cannot shut the bonnet as one off the clips hit the underside of the bonnet .I have a 987 Spyder and use the same charger with no issues .Could some one send me a picture of the battery compartment showing the battery with the lid removed ,am I correct in thinking that even if the bonnet light goes out after a while it still maybe drawing current. Thanks in advance or post on here .

Odd, the clips should sit horizontally/flat just below the top level of the battery (let alone the battery cowel). There should be loads of space so he must be putting the clips in vertically?

Do you mean Trickle Charger or Maintenance Charger?
Anyway - there should be enough room for the clips to be laid over at 90 degress; there's certainly enough room in my 997 C2s to do that.
Alternatively if it's a Maintenance Charger it's far better to use the bolt-on terminals and run the lead out the drivers side of the battery cover, then through the windscreen end of the bonnet. This has two advantages 1) The bonnet can be shut properly and the alarm turned on 2) There's no seal at the screen end, so the cable won't snag on anything.
Another good tip if using the bolt-on terminals is to cable-tie each side onto the thick battery cable so it doesn't get pulled while being connected or disconnected.

Mine looks a bit like this

If it's a Ctek, or Lidls lookalike, an alternative is the cigarette lighter socket? The door closes no problem over the thin Ctek cable.

It's the Lidl one same Ctek use both ..that picture looks exactly the same as my 987 .I think he has the crok clips vertical by the sounds of it mine are 90deg you say and the cable does not jam when the bonnet is closed .I have the Ctek one with spade connecters fitted on a permanent flying led with male /female adapter on the 981 as it is a faff getting into the battery having to strip out the whole front cover as opposed to the tray in the 987/997 ..Thanks for all you help .

This set up is ok but if it is a c tSk type charger then the cigarette lighter adapt or connection is less bother , just insert and switch on , close door .......the cigarette lighter socket is direct to the battery unswitched.....

Or use the 12v power outlet in the passenger footwell to connect the ctek lighter connector and run the cable out under the passenger door.
