Battery conditioner can it be plugged into the cigar lighter ?

Hi,

I have a Porsche battery conditioner which worked fine on my GT3, however when I plug it into the cigar lighter on my S2 it makes buzzing sound and powers up the heater fan which doesn't seem right!

I read somewhere it may be to do with if the cigar lighter is 'live' with the ignition off.

Does anyone know if you can charge via the cigar lighter on an S2 ?

Cheers
Richard

On my S2, the cigar lighter only works with the ignition on. Whether this affects things on these cars I do not know.

Perhaps it would be easier to mount an aftermarket part in the glovebox, using a fused hot-wire, or to a fused permanent live?

My c-tek conditioner came with a wire/terminal thingy that permanently attaches to the battery.I threaded it through the boot carpet & just plug it in to the charger when I need to, takes a minute tops. Did that make sense?

Also,When its linked to the charger I can close the rear hatch and not damage the cable.
I've never had any issues wiring straight to the battery terminals

Please put a fuse in the live lead as close as possible to the battery if doing this.Otherwise a trapped lead could mean a toasted car!

I have the same setup for my c-tek charger too. Might have to get a fuse on it as never thought of that, any ideas as to the best ampage to use?

Hard to say mate I would check the output of your trickle charger It should be rated then choose one just slightly higher than that. Not meaning to teach to suck eggs etc but if the output is rated at say 5 Amps than choose a 7.5 Amp fuse. Seriously though a battery can burn down a car without a problem.

7.5 Amp should be more than enough.I think the C-Tek is around 4-5Amps so 7.5A would be fine.
