battery conditioner

Can anyone recommend a good battery conditioner for my 993 TT. Is it possible to charge the battery via the cigar lighter / 12v socket inside the car? Thanks.

See if the lighter socket works with the ignition switched off.

If it does then you should be able to use a charger through it.

I have used a c-tek 7000 model on my 993 TT for over a year now and it works very well. No more drained battery problems.

The easiest way I found to hook it up (if you have a garage) is to attach the (included) fly-lead with plug connector to the battery terminal nuts and then all you nned to do is reach into the bonnet to plug it in - no faffing around with crocodile clips on the battery.

If you don't want to close the bonnet on the lead but you do want to lock / alarm the car then press in the latch to the closed postion before you lower the bonnet, that way the alrm will not go off and your under-bonnet light will stay off. Just remember to pull the bonnet release / properly close the lid, before you drive off - it is all too easy to forget...

all the best

thanks Tim. My bonnet light seems to stay on in the latched position, also the small light over the ignition key slot. I was hoping to charge the car via the cigar socket and trail the lead through an ajar window.

I'm not sure if it's the same on your car, but on mine you can route the cable from the top of the bonnet - by the windscreen wipers. Then you can close the bonnet as normal - with the latch working.

Edit:
Maybe not - I realise I misread you as writing 996TT rather than 993...

not sure about 993 but 996's have a small cut out in the door seal about a foot below the door lock for feeding the cable through when charging through the lighter socket.

richyrich - are you sure the bonnet light does not go off when you push the latch closed (i.e. into the locked position) with your thumb? Certainly works on mine and i had thought all 993 models had the light switch in this latch. I don't have the ignition key light, so maybe your car has the switch in a diferent place?
