Battery Drain

Just put an amp meter between the earth and the battery.

With the alarm on and everything else switched off it uses 0.2 amp.

If anyone wants to try this I would be interested in the results (round dash)

When fitting another tacho. I noticed the live wire was showing 12v with the ignition off. This does not seem correct and uses 0.04amp

Do I take a switched live from the ignition instead?

I would appreciate help from anybody who can understand the wiring diagram, I am normally good at these but find this one impossible. [X(]Glasses might help[8|]

My new battery has a label that states 110 min. @ 25 amp reserve.
I worked this out to last me about 2 weeks from fully charged (with the tacho. disconnected) but I don't know at what point would it fail to start.

Someone suggested to me that the main cause of battery drain is a defective diode in the alternator, I think I might try unplugging it and taking another reading.

I have just bought a multi-meter to test this very thing.

Am I right to assume that I take off the negative battery terminal and link the meter to the wire I have taken off and to the battery. Sorry for the question, but I am not very technically minded !

I will let you know the results.

Yes
Check the multi-meter will take the load, sometimes you have to move a lead to a different socket for amps.

Your alarm will arm itself so hold down the bonnet sensor.
