Battery issues/ not covered under warranty

We own a 911 Carrera S Cabriolet (MY22) reg in Oct/21. A few months ago, my wife drove it back to London and the battery was dead the next day and Porsche assistance came and got it started but 3 units including the convertible top had shorted out and needed replacing. Then 3 weeks ago the battery died again and shorted the convertible unit again. Our local dealer where the work was done earlier this year is now saying that battery needs to be replaced at our cost for £1500. I cant believe this as Porsche batteries are covered for first 4 years under warranty in the US. Plus they are saying now that we should have been plugging the battery in. If they had told us this when we bought the car or earlier this year after the first battery episode then I could see how it might be our fault but they did not. The dealership has submitted a goodwill proposal to Porsche HQ to see if they will cover any of this but im not hopeful as its been almost 3 weeks and no answer yet.

So my question is has anyone else in the club had similar battery issues and not being covered under warranty. Im just looking to ideally compare notes with other members.

When the car was new it came with a full 3 years manufacturers warranty that covers all defects and that includes the battery.

To say that the vehicle should be 'plugged in' is nonsense and an attempt to deflect your claim.

If the battery is defective and /or caused by other items of you car causing it to become faulty they should, IMHO, be replacing it free of charge.

Ask the dealer where, in you warranty, it says you should 'plugged in' the car. That's rubbish.

If you get no satisfaction contact the ombudsman and / or the small claims court

£1500 for a battery replacement??? There having a laugh.
 
I had repeated issues with my battery going flat after I got my car (it's 2019 registered) but never did a flat battery (which I suffered many times) cause a module to "short". I have had convertible top module need a full reset and recalibration and same with spoiler module both resulting from flat battery - maybe that's what they mean? I have had a replacement GPS/tracker module as that was cause of repeated flat battery; maybe it is the modules that you refer to that are the cause of the battery going dead in which case they and the battery should be replaced under warranty. I never needed a replacement battery but everything was dealt with under warranty.

The 3yr warranty on the car covers the battery and the dealer is trying to rip you off in my opinion; why they are doing this is the question.

I would normally leave my car on a tender if it is being left for any time. However, to say that you are "required" to put on a tender is, as Peter states, absolute tosh.
 
£1,500 😲 Porsche are loosing the plot absolute madness.
How come if you buy a Bosch battery they come with a 5 year warranty.
Seen similar story's about ridiculous servicing costs .
 
Your manufacturer's warranty is in place until Oct 2024, isn't it? In which case, the battery should be covered. Suggest you speak to the After-sales Manager or Dealer Principal at your Porsche Centre.

Plugged in ? What is plugged in, to what, where / when. ?

Flat battery shorting out modules. ?

That’s not possible (indeed it’s a “nonsense” sentence. )

A short is an unintended connection between and signal or power wire and its “opposite”. In terms of the modules that suggests a reverse power connection (if you short a power feed to a module the fuse should blow - that’s what they are for )

How does a battery dropping below a reference point cause that. ? Nonsense.

As to £1500 - what is the breakdown of that cost. ?

A battery ( wild guess at Porsche prices - £500, fitting and coding - an hour - call it £750 all in - about £450 more than it should be but hey ho)

There’s more going on here in my opinion.
 
Good point - but as far as I know they aren't all supplied with lithium batteries?

Quick look suggests "regular" batteries are around £500-£550 (inc) ish from OPC (some variants in the parts list but a quick search on 992915105A, B or D shows the usual suspects listing genuine at less than the OPC price) - against option code J0V

with the lithium one (9Y0 915 107 RY) (against option code J2A) at approx £2000 opc and a little less from the usual online providers ( again listed as genuine)

From that, neither option seems to fit the OP's quoted replacement costs from OPC.

Just seems like the OP has been given some info that to my mind doesn't add up and if it were me I would be wanting to understand more about what I had been told and what I was being asked to pay for.
