battery jumper off.

Hi, Not what you asked, but I got a Porsche trickle charger that plugged into the cigarette lighter and you leave it on all the time (check your cig. lighter is live with the ignition off). This means all alarm/tracker sytems remain on and the battery remains fully charged ready for use. After the Porsche one packed in (after about 3 years, I got one from Halfords for £25/£30 , although it doesn't have the cigar plug it can be connected directly onto the battery). Works so well I also got one for my M5. Simple plug in system takes only minutes to put on take off each time you use the car.

hi as above not quite sure what you mean most people use a trickle charger or as the manufactuers put it a battery conditioner to keep the cars topped up porsche sell one but essentially it is the one made by c-tek i use the 3600 very good and really gets the battery fully juiced up I think you will find most of us do the same

can you use these chargers for a few hours to keep the battery topped up, or do they really need to be on the car all the time? what i am after, is a device to jump start the car if the battery is already flat.

Costco sell them as do every Motorists spares store-they are all yellow with various gadgets-& have to have the internal battery kept charged up using the inbuilt charger--Around £39-49.00+ vat

I think it is far better to keep battery topped up with a battery conditioner rather than use a booster as letting the battery get so discharged will lead to its premature failure. These conditioners are designed to be left on indefinity and use very little electricity. I got the impression from the OPC that the Porsche one only maintained an already charged battery, but the Halford one definitely does charge it up going from a red LED to green to indicate the battery is fully charged. Some of the really powerful booster chargers capable of starting the car can almost fry the battery.

I think I have just added to the confusion Porsche's battery top up device i believe is exactly the same as the C -Tek battery conditioner just has porsche tax added C tek make many conditioners according to your pocket To call it a trickle charger is being a little economical with the truth It does that and a lot more,I would check out C-teks website for a much fuller discussion http://www.ctek.com/EN-GB/Default.aspx My friends in the trade swear by them and dont use anything else the conditioner's are used or recommended by all major manufacturer's AstonMartin etc You basically leave it switched on all the time, and it avoids the dreaded problem of a flat battery in your porsche and the pain to try and get in your car with the alarm bursting your eardrums ps try getting the bonnet open with a flat battery[;)] I put it on periodically even if I have used the car to keep the battery in tip top shape In fact I'll go do that now I think most owners have one and use it regulalry and dont use anything else you will also find people like auotfarm sell them There is a good reason why people swear by them they are the muts

Hi Folks, Where do you connect a c-tek on a 991 gen 1? Cheers, Giles I'd imagine the battery is a good place to start:ROFLMAO:

Get an Acumate, far cheaper than a C-Tek, does the same thing.

I use one on my 996 Turbo & on my Moto Guzzi.

I just thread the leads around by the wiper blade on the off side with the bonnet open, I have connected a lead directly to the battery, take's but a moment or two to connect the battery, then shut the bonnet, set the alarm & switch on the charger.

The one that I use one the Turbo must be at least 15 years old, used it on my 964 for some 12+ years before the car was written off in Scotland & 3/4 years on my old 944 Turbo.

Brian

Gotta be honest if I know I am not going to be driving the car for more than 2 weeks, I leave the bonnet cracked and top up the day before for about 8 hours with a standard £11 charger I got from Eurocarparts....call me a cheapskate, but it does the trick....!

Some people don't have power in their garages, Council lockups for example.

What I do is disconnect the battery by using a quick connector on the earth connection. During the winter months my Porsche can remain unused for months at a time an this method works well for me.

Used CTEK chargers for a number of years on cars and mowers, find them very good.

bought an upgraded version recently to keep the Cayman on permanent charge as only use at weekends. The version I have has a dedicated charging program for AGM batteries. Best to connect directly to terminals.

If you keep an eye out on Amazon they do lightning sales with about 20% off from time to time.

As Richard mentioned many people in the trade use them.
