Battery life for key

Had my Cayman from new for 13 months and done 13k miles. Looks like the key battery might need replacing as it has failed to unlock the car three times over the last couple of weeks. To get in I had to unlock the door lock manually and then put key in the ingition.

What is the usual life for a key battery? I don't recall ever replacing my Golf key fob in nearly 9 years of ownership and 130k miles. On the other hand, my partner used to have a Volvo 440 and needed to replace the batteries every couple of years or so.

Funny you should ask, was just thinking the other day about that as my keys are now 40 months old, its probably how long is a piece of string question [8|] We always take the spare set if off for a few days[;)] ps: I would have thought 13 months is shorter than normal for battery life in a key

I'd agree with marlin. However, you should also be aware that from time to time local radio waves can interfere with the remote contol and there is a warning somewhere in the handbook to that effect. I experienced the same symptons for some time. Simultaneously one of my neighbours and the postman also had trouble with their remotes. My other neighbour was unaffected and away from the house the remote worked perfectly. This may be of help. John

I'm assuming from the post, your car is used regularly...as in a daily drive? Then it does sound like the key battery. If however, you leave the car for over 7 days, then you need to use the key manually in the lock, start the car, then carry on as normal...
