Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent battery maintainer for my 993 for when she goes to bed for the winter (subject to very bad weather) One that plugs into the cig lighter would be good
OPC's do 2 versions One is a battery conditioner only which basically holds the charge as is £69.00 and the other charges battery and then maintains condiition when fully charged up for £84.00

The OPCs and people that advertise in the mags seem to think if you have a Porsche you need an expensive maintainer. Rubbish of course.
Ian.
On the 993 the cigarette lighter is not permanently live, so if you want to charge via the lighter it will need to be re-wired.
If you push down the bonnet release lever then the light will not stay on whilst charging - just have to remember to pull the release lever before trying to shut the lid when you want to go for a spin.

I use an optimate
The instructions for my Optimate say it's only good for batteries upto 32 Amp Hours. Fine for my motorbike and MGB,but I would guess a993 has something rather more substancial (don't get my 993 until tomorrow so I can't tell you!!).
Cheers
Andy

Do you have the CTEK XS 3600 rated for 1.2-120Ah?
I recently went to take my car out of the garage after a 4 week storage period and the battery was deader than a dodo! I've been using the CTEK XS 800 (rated for 1.2-32Ah) for a year without any problems, but the death of my battery and the need to replace it has highlighted the fact that I should be using a charger rated for 75Ah.
The battery was the original and had managed 11 years which I didn't think was too bad, so I'm not convinced that I actually need to change my battery conditioner.
Any suggestions?

Hi Maybechild
I have the CTEK XS800, which I have been using for over two years with no problems. My gad you actually got 11 years out of a battery thats amazing I can assure you that your battery died from old age(natural causes)[]. Thats got to be a record[].
I use to use the Draper Brand which I bought from Halfords which was is approx. £19 I did not like ( had to replace the battery)the fact there is no "auto off" when the battery is fully charged, Hence I looked for another brand CTEK which can be connected all year round without any worry as you know and the price is OK.

There must be different ones as I have a Draper which looks after the battery on my Land Rover and that is a conditioner that turns off when the battery is fully charged and back on when it needs topping up.
