Battery or Starter

advice please you 944 Guru's

I am still learning about these front engined jobbys but I suppose this question is simple to answer for those who have more experience.

My 944 race car has a little problem. It won't start from cold without jump leads(turns over slowish but doesn't fire). when it's warm it starts fine, when it's hot ( after a few hot laps the started won't turnover).
It is a blueprinted engine and as such it is pretty tight but I don't feel that is the issue.

The battery seems to take a charge and holds it quite well without load, but after 2-3 attempts at starting the volts are down to about 11v

Questions[8|]

Is the battery screwed or is the starter just taking too much current to turnover?

Is the starter serviceable, I have removed it and bench tested and the solenoid and motor operate fine.

Any help would be much appreciated before I go off and spend my pounds

Ta very much [:D]

I would say battery to. Eurocarparts do a Bosch Silver for about £53 inc vat.

Being a race car you might want to get an Odessey or similar.

Yes car runs alternator and that has been checked and is OK

Thanks for the info

In my experience batteries can be a PITA when they get like this and can cause several starting issues, I had a similar problem, once the battery was changed for a new one the car has started perfectly everytime.

I know batteries dont like the cold if unused for a while, it may be prudent therefore to remove it and leave it on trickle charge when not running the car through the winter months.
