Battery removal/replacement.

I think that my Cayman 987.2 battery has failed. Today, after being parked in my garage for a week, it had only just enough charge to start the car. I then drove 12 miles and parked the car (locked) for 90 mins, I then started it again and drove with the lights on for another 12 miles and parked (un-locked, lights off) for 30 minutes, on trying to start again the battery had insufficient power to turn the engine over, I was able to get assistance to bump start the car.

There were/are no warning lights showing so I assume that the alternator is charging Ok. According to my handbook it should be quite straightforward to remove and replace the battery - can anyone confirm this from first hand experience? Also can anyone who has replaced their battery tell me what make/model and amp/hours they went for?

Thanks.

Bosche S4 or S5 easy to swap out about £85, or a MOLL from your opc if you want a warranty, it's a poor battery and is £250.

Thanks MrDemon.

I can guess what I'll be doing this weekend [:)]

Yes Andrew, steer clear of the dreaded Moll battery if you can.

This should help with the things which need to be addressed when replacing the battery.

Hi.

Don't go for a Porsche battery as it will cost over £300 and they don't last.

Get a Bosch S5 from Europarts. It will only cost about £120 and comes with a 5 year guarantee.

Think the S5 is 80AH which is the same as the Porsche battery

If you do go for the Porsche branded Moll battery due to maintaining the warranty remember to at least get your club discount. I fitted one in my Gen1 987S and it was still on the car when I traded it in 4 years later having given no problems but as you'll have seen from the above the Bosch is considered a better battery and cheaper, if warranty was no issue I would have got the Bosch.

I recently fitted the Bosch S5 - purchased from Europarts. Doddle to fit - none of the issues with changing the battery, just had to do the windows. Even the clock didnt need resetting.

Enjoy.

Thanks for your tips everyone. I've just removed the original, dead, MOLL battery and replace with a Bosch S5. All is well again. I had to reset the windows and clock, the PSM showed an error on startup but cleared on driving.
