Battery Replacement

Hi Guys

First post here for a long time, but after an unsuccessful attempt through court and baliffs to get my money back on 1969 912 bought from Tower Porsche (oops sorry did I mention their name!) I need to look at getting the car properly on the road.

Given that she has been garaged for the past two years without use, I need to replace the battery and get her to my local specialist for an MOT and countless other work.

Having not had much to do with it, and never having replaced the battery in her either, can someone tell me what size of battery is best please?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Hi Simon,
Sorry to hear sbout your troubles.

Now, if your car has been stood for a long time then the battery may need a good chrage or replacing as you suggest.
However your bigger problem may be your brakes, they have a propensity to seize when not used for long periods, I would check these first as a priority. The best thing would be to get the car trailered to your Expert and have a proper check over MOT etc.

The best battery would be an Optima sealed unit, these are ££ but worth it, but your Expert should be able to advise what commercially available battery will be ok, I have a Bosch Silver but can't get access to my car to check numbers.
Anyone else?

Let us know how you get on! Will be great to see another car back on the road.
Cheers

Hi Gavin

Thanks for the reply. I can't wait to get it back on the road either.

The brakes are fine (or at least were about six weeks ago) as I do move it from time-to-time to ensure that they do not seize.

Since buying it, a certain 'little person' has come along, which means I will have to look at installing some proper rear seat belts and find a car seat that will fit as well....any tips on this would also be appreciated.

Cheers

Congratulations on the arrival!

Belts

They are the best, not very handy for you but very good and well used to old Porsches, think they might do PCGB discount too.

get that car out and about on those wonderful roads...

i was out and about up Box hill and across minch common and up to to Bussage last week-end[8D]...just watch the cows

Hi Simon sorry to hear your bad news but hmmm not getting the best rep are they.

Anyway any troubles let us know here and I am sure we would do our best to help you out..

I just go to my local car parts place and I got a battery there I think it was about £25.

Hi all,

Sorry for not replying, but I have been away for the past few days.

Thanks for all your replies and messages of support. I really am looking forward to getting her back on the road, so will be making a visit to my local motor factors today to buy the battery.

I'll keep in touch and let you know the progress...I think the work that'll need to be undertaken will be painful on the pocket but ultimately pleasing to the eye. At the last count (and this was about 12 months ago before the court case began) the issues were:

· O/S/R Suspension Cover "" Corroded
· Front Sidelight Lenses "" Wrong Colour
· Rear Indicator Lenses "" Wrong Colour
· Horn "" Inoperative
· Washers "" Inoperative
· N/S Floor under Drivers Seat "" Corroded
· O/S/F Wheel Bearing "" Loose
· N/S/R Sidelight "" Stays on when lights switched off

Thanks for now.

Cheers
Simon
