Battery Replacement

My Battery has died on my 96 993 Targa. It is a genuine Porsche Battery. Have been to halfords to get a new one to find it doesn't fit in the gap. it's a good inch to long. Tired the AA as a mate works there same problem. Rang two OPC for prices and a new one from them is £92.94 inc Vat - 10% . Has anyone else had this problem or know where I can get one that will fit?
