Battery (Replacing a Porsche Approved Part)

Hi

I'm only looking for some feedback on an Issue I'm having with my local dealership over a Porsche approved battery fitted to my Cayman by them after they confirmed the last battery had failed.

In August 2012 when my Dealership serviced my Cayman they didn't notice the battery was on it way out so then in September 2012 the Battery failed & the dealership was excellent and come and picked up the car then tested the battery and it had failed then duly charged me £200 to replace it which was not a problem even when my early service had cost me £1500 a month early.

Since then the new Porsche approved battery has failed again and my dealership say its not covered via the Warranty even when the Battery is a Porsche approved part which comes with a 2 year Guarantee so Porsche web page says and and parts has to be fitted by a Porsche approved Technicians which in my case was as I only deal with my Local Dealership even with the costs maybe higher over a non approved local Porsche service place.

I have been honest with my Dealership and told them when my Cayman is stored for the winter I use a Genuine Porsche Approved Trickily Charger so to keep the battery charged but I go one further I always start the car every 2 weeks and run it for 30 minutes so to keep the Cayman ticking over.

Any help and advice on this matter would be very useful and and feedback if anyone else has has a same sort of Experience with there dealership over trying to get a Porsche Approved part replaced even when they say it not covered by the Porsche Warranty for there own Porsche Approved Parts.

Yours sincerely Kevin.

Hi Kevin, Sorry to hear about your problem. Sounds to me as though you're being treated very badly by your PC to whom you've been very loyal in the past and from whom I presume you're soon to purchase a new Macan. If, as you say, the battery is covered by a 2-year warranty I can't see what is the problem, since you're well within the warranty period and it was fitted by the dealership. And surely even the dreaded Moll battery should be expected to last for a minimum period of 2 years without failure when other suppliers guarantee their's for a least that time. A very strong letter to your dealer principal is required I think, emphasising your loyalty to the dealership and your impending purchase. Good luck. Jeff

Hi Jeff Thank you for your feedback and I have already wrote twice to the dealership principal but with no joy and have already started to take my business to another dealership as I also collect Porsche Die-Cast models and have spent going on £25000 over the last 25years just on toy cars as some would say. I have also received invites to event of the likes the Macan Launch & after sales event which I have not taken up and have attended another dealership for there Mancan launch even with this dealership being nearly 160 miles away to who I have already given my business to on my Porsche Die - Cast front. I am now thinking of taking my business to this dealership for my order on the Macan but still think my dealership should be given another go reference sorting my battery issue out. So today a not so plight letter will be wrote and sent to the the dealership principal again and also to Porsche Cars GB Sales and Marketing to the level of service I'm receiving from my dealership who has just opened a state of the art new all singing and dancing dealership but I'm not holding out any hope as things I have read about other dealings with Porsche Dealerships in the Uk over other dealerships around the world is not very good but please don't think I'm bad mouthing other UK dealership who look after there customers needs I'm not as I'm sure other UK dealerships offer an excellent service to there customers but my Dealership are not. Yours sincerely Kevin.

I'm not understanding why they will not replace the battery? It is a standalone item, not covered by the warranty, but indeed comes with its own 2 year warranty. You are claiming under the 2 year battery warranty. Have you spoken to PGB customer services? A quick phone call to trading standards might be in order.

Hi Reference Porsche Cars GB no I have not spoken to them but as I said early I'm planning to write to them. Reference trading standards department I tend not to go down that route but may think about it if I have no joy with Porsche. Thanks again for your feedback it's been very helpful. Yours sincerely Kevin.

Check with Trading Standards. The minimum guarantee is twelve months, but I understand for some goods the guarantee is as much as six years (sellers forget to tell you that bit). Batteries are usually three or four years. I think the OPC is being a bit tight, especially as you are a loyal customer. Cheers,

As others have said, it's got it's own guarantee which will be against the receipt. Show them the receipt and contact Porsche Reading. This appears to be very bad customer support.

Hi Keven The Dealership was given a copy of the Receipt with my first letter as I also gave them the receipt for the Porsche Trickly Charger brought from another Dealership so they know it was a Porsche Item. I have wrote a letter to Porsche GB Today and also a 2nd letter to the Dealership in question address to the head person as was the first letter about there poor customer care to a long standing customer over many year. I tend to write letters as you only get passed from one person to another if you call then you have to start again with the problem but with a wrote vision you have a hard copy over talking to someone they can say they didn't say that. Keven Thankyou for your feedback and I will update the forum with the results being good or bad but I'm hoping the dealership will take notice this time as they know I have already taken my Die Cast model I brought from them in the past to another Dealership which of the 7 Models brought has given excellent service including replacing one that got damage in getting to me no problem and they repaid the return postage as a goodwill. Yours sincerely Kevin.
