I need a new battery for my turbo the one thats on is a 55ah is this correct for the car ??. Also could i change to a smaller physical size battery for weight saving as i have new bosch silver top battery small size and is 45ah ??

I think original spec back in the 80's was around 68ah but then it had been uprated when I bought one from an OPC in the mid 90's. I currently have a 72ah in the Turbo and 74ah in the S2.

Presumably it will make it more difficult to crank the engine especially when it is cold. 944s are heavy to start as it is - I'm not sure I would care to have a battery less then 70 a/H for a car in regular use, I recall my new battery making quite a difference.
If you were to go to the lighter battery it would make sense to check your starter motor and solenoid as again having these up to scratch makes a big difference to the cranking speed and hence how much power you need to start the car.

I've been running around with a 45 Ah Optima for over a year, without any problems. IIRC that was also the spec for 968 Club Sports, and Porsche tend to be conservative. It doesn't save as much weight as I thought, though, about 5 Kg.
