Battery Trouble !!

Hi all, my first post, having owned my 07 plate Cayman for almost 5 months. Unfortunitaley it's not a post saying how wonderful the car is (although I do like it, a lot [:D] ).

Thursday morning when trying to start the car, the battery was flat. Eventually got it started with the use of jump leads and drove it back in the garage where it was then put on trickle charge. Checked it this morning but only measurd 10V across the battery, swaped the trickle charge for the quick charger and after a couple of hours measured 12V and managed to start the car.

Took the car for a run out for an hour to give it a decent charge, called in to the petrol station to fill up, and you guessed it, it wouldn't start again. Managed to get a jump start off a very helpfull young lady in a mini who was more than happy to help. Got the car back home left it in the garage for 30mins and have just checkded the battery again, 10V... Looks like one of the cells in the battery has gone short circuit.

I'll be on the phone to my dealer on Monday as the car came with 12 month warranty, but does anybody know if the battery is actually covered, it isn't mentioned in the booklet I have??

Thanks,

Mike

Are you sure it's the battery and not the alternator? I was told if you put a volt meter on the battery when the car's running it should read 12Volts, if it doesn't then it's likely to be the alternator. Correct me if this is wrong please someone. JJ

Alternator is fine, when the car is runnig I'm getting 14V, once the engine is off, and it has sat for a while the battery voltage drops to 10V suggesting a cell is dead. Mike

It's only a battery .... [;)] If you change it, just make sure you look after the new one and you won't have any more trouble ...

Called dealer today, as expected, "No sir, the battery isn't covered. If you give us £240 we'll supply and fit new one for you". I don't think so Mike

Be warned though .... if you were thinking of extending your 'Limited (doesn't cover Battery) Warranty' you will fail the 111 point check as you no longer have a Porsche battery fitted. Crazy..... yes .... unlawful ..... it would be if it were Porsche underwriting the extended warranty .... but it isn't .... so guess what ..... they can get away with it.
