Battery

My 3 year old 996tt battery has just failed!!!! As I do 1000 miles a month I have not used the Porsche trickle charger recently, but the longest gap since last using the car before the battery failed was only a week. After charging (on a proper charger) it only reads 11.6 volts and rapidly drops to 10.2. So it is****ed. Of course it is NOT covered by the extended warranty and a |Porsche replacement is £250 with only a 2 year warranty. It is no wonder they are the most profitable car company.
After over 18 years of Porsche ownership things like this take the icing off the gingerbread. I refuse to be ripped off and have searched to get a Bosch but couldn't find antone who could get me the 80ah one and the Bosch website list of supplers is rubbish as half I rang don.t do Bosch!
I have read good reports on Varta (sister to Bosch?) and their new 85ah silver, but there are none available for a few weeks! I have settled on a Varta Blue 80ah at about £90 and a 3 years warranty.
I can't recall ever having to buy a 3 year old car a battery in my 37 years of car ownership. Bearing in mind Porsche sold this car for £108000 only 3 years ago I think it stinks.
Of course as soon as I drive it again I will forgive it everything. (Until the next ridiculous bill arrives).

I think Porsche will point the finger at the tracker system... but if have done 12000 in a year (your monthly 1000miles x 12) then the battery should be in very good condition and well charged all the time...

And the fact that a battery is a consumable.

And your marvellous Varta battery comes with - Blimey - A 3 year warranty......

No, I don't work for a battery company, yes their failures have p1ssed me off - Move on.

well....

i got in my 996 C4S today after 6 weeks offshore and she started first time! and yes i have a tracker and the original 2004 battery!

perhaps i am lucky??
