Battery

I need to purchase a new battery for my Targa and wonder if anyone has any good ideas.
Mine has run down quite quick after each charge even with leaving the maintaining charger going so without the charger she will only has about a day till dead even with it isolated.
So any recommendations for a good battery for these wonderful beasts? or do I just go with and ordinary one?

I purchased a Bosch S5 type 100 rated at 74 ahr from Euro Carparts. (sometimes have special offers) It has been in the car since August 2012 and will hold a charge for three to four weeks, when the car is not used, without battery conditioner. If you have a tracker you might also check that it's battery is in good order as if it is not it may be draining the main battery.

There are a number of things that can cause very fast battery drain (even with a new good battery). The most common is stuck flap motors in the interior heating system. I've found the drain caused by these to be intermittent in that the battery can go flat in a couple of days, then last for weeks, then go flat in a couple of days, all I guess depending on the position of the flap when it gets stuck. You can put a multi meter in series with the battery when the ignition is off (and been off for > 20 minutes) and see what current is being drawn. I can't remember what the norm is but I think documented somewhere in the technical section on here. Switch off the alarm horn first! I've found that even in normal conditions (working flap motors) the amount of current seems to pulse - i.e. it sits at a low rate but pulses up to about 10 times that rate every 12 seconds or so. I suspect that's a tracker device I have fitted causing that.

Last time I replaced mine I found you could get the Bosch version which I believe is same spec as OE Porsche model from Halfords with a 5 year guarantee for well under half the price of the original. That was a few years ago And after about 4 years it too became temperamental and Halfords replaced it on the spot with another which has been fine ever since. If you don't run the car regularly put a decent intelligent trickle charger on it - I use an Optimate which works well.
