Hi Guys, simple question(probably) Battery on my BoxsterS 987 APPERS TO BE DEAD:( JUMP STARTS FIRST TIME BUT EVEN AFTER RUNNING FOR 1 HOUR WONT START OFF BATTERY(PORSCHE BADGED 3 YEARS OLD) QUESTION IS CAN AFTERMARKET EG HALFORDS SUPPLY -FIT ONE OR PORSCHE ONLY? last time OPC said it "needs setting up"? ADVICE PLEASE? THANKS ALL....PS LENT MY NEIGBOUR SMART TRICKLE CHARGER, ONLY GOT IT BACK TODAY,TOO LATE:(

Happened to me with my 987. I am told 3 years is about it for an original battery and its always when the weather gets cold of course. I got a wonderful array of odd fault displays up on the dash when mine expired which was pretty confusing/worrying as there was nowt in the handbook about it. Anyway - replaced mine myself with a decent Bosch one no problems, as long as you can still get the bonnet up. Its a bit of an awkward lift in/out so be careful there.

Many thanks.. Yes boot released ok.,, I have it on smart charger tonite and see what happens in morning ! Yes Halfords have Bosch for £96.00 ...

Before you remove the battery I think that you need to lock the car using the remote then unlock manually with the key and then quickly insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the first position (otherwise the alarm will go off).

When you've replaced the battery, turn the ignition back off and you're back to normal again. You may need to set the radio code, so don't forget to make sure that you have it before you start..!

Just a reminder that if you car is under Porsche Approved Warranty then it will be void if you fit a non standard Porsche battery.

So get yourself some jump leads to ensure you don't become disconnected. Then you wont need to find out the radio code[;)]

I thought 987s had the radio code embedded in the car, not needed if you disconnect the battery?

I sincerely hope so Brian.

This post had me searching through all my documentation and I can't find any reference to a radio code. Perhaps it's now deemed unnecessary because the unit's incorporated in the dashboard.

Jeff

Hi, I am pretty sure there is no radio code for the 987, the radio is matched/paired to the ECU for that particular car. It is automatically recognised by the management system.

Cant you just plug in the charger to the power socket - then when you remove the battery terminals power will remain supplied via the charger

Eurocarparts will do an S5 Bosch (5yr guarantee) for £76. Check on line and enter UKPAS25 in the promotion code and you will recieve the 25% discount. You must order on-line and either have it delivered FOC or click and collect at your local branch.

The voucher is not available directly at the counter.

there is no radio code on the 987, the radio talks to the clocks (as the radio station is displayed)(all on can bus system so radio is programed to dash module) took my radio out to fit sat nav and when tested car with a durametric tester is said radio missing.

Changed my battery in May 2011 car was four and a half years old and I'd not used a trickle charger, as someone said it's a difficult reach with such a heavy lump.

No codes, no problems.
