Baz Hart 944 16v turbo project.

Recently Baz let it be known that he was selling all the parts he'd engineered years ago, for a high output 944 16v turbo engine. I saw the post before the Rennlist membership police deleted it. It seems someone in the UK snapped most of the parts up, so is someone on here planning to finish the build?

I wonder !

I also wonder what the 16V Head characteristics are compared to the more popular 8V?
Porsche did make a 16V Turbo 2.5 Lump for Racing at Le mans in 1981 which finished 7th from 55 Entrants!,
but when they did the road car 968 Turbo they choose an 8v head.

Better breathing at higher RPM's for Racing I 'm thinking...

Perhaps it was someone from over on the tipec forum?

Also "Tim" is it? was selling their custom 16v 944 Turbo recently - it was listed on ebay for just over £25k starting bid but ended early so wondering if someone made him the right offer and purchased it off-line.

Wasn't there someone who posted on here with a connection to turbo technics that built a white 16valve turbo?
Also wonder what happened to the lexus V8 swap that was heading towards completion.
Worldwide there are a number of 16valve turbos, 9ff built one I have photos of somewhere

Tim worked for a Cosworth specialists in Peterborough. If a good standard 944 turbo is worth £20k plus, his car would have been a bargain at £25k. The only negative about the car for me, was it's a modified S2 rather than an original 944 turbo. And I think it had too much grunt for the gearbox.

Very heavily modified - some amazing work making new parts - the build thread on rennlist is fascinating - https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/756086-my-porsche-944-s2-16-valve-turbo-project.html

Tim showed me around the car before he put it on the road. There was much more to it than most turbo conversions. I wonder what he's replaced it with.

Maybe he decided not to sell it, the auction was ended early by the seller....

He was going to sell it a few years back, but changed his mind. He bought it to the Rutland meet a couple of times, I'd have loved a ride in it.

Baz's parts have the potential to make a great engine. Nikasil plated alloy wet liners in a 2.5 block, a 16v head with special exhaust valves. Piper cams, carrillo rods, 2 sets of wossner pistons. Plus a load of standard parts.

I swapped a few emails with Baz about the engine. Huge amount of parts and lots of interesting modifications but ultimately it was all theoretical and Baz made it clear that you’d be pretty much on your own with it.

Realistically I could only see it sat on an engine stand in my garage for several years and knowing who at least one of the other interested parties were I stepped aside.

I did see Baz's post and if I'd had some spare cash would have bit his arm off - I do hope someone owns up to getting it all, but possibly they want to stay quiet until it is all put together...

I'd have cut the liners out of the 2.5 block and installed them in a 2.7/3.0 block. Then just used the 16v head, piper cams, carrillo rods and wossner pistons. I've had a 2.7 head and block on an engine stand for years, and unless my 2.5 engine goes pop, it's unlikely I'd use what was for sale. As the wossners are over 10 years old, the skirt coating should be the type that doesn't fall off though.
