BBs Race Wheels

Thinking of buying BBS 5 bolt race wheels for my 993rs. The car would be driven to and from trackdays. It was set up by JZM and runs on Michelin cups. Any difference between E28 magnesium and E88 aluminium on track? I guess aluminium are less prone to damage on the road.

Also wheels are 8x18 front, 10x18 rear. I believe 993 cup cars run 8.5x18 at the front. Presumably this would give more front end grip with a 235/40 cup as used on the GT3 996 Mark 2. Would it fit the wheel arch. More grip is great, but I don,t want to upset the balance of the car. Any experience or advice welcome!

Stay with factory sizes for best balance
Ali better than mag for durability, also be aware the race wheels are not TUV approved, unless this has changed recently.

The magnesium ones ,if driven on the roads, are very prone to crackng due to pot holes etc I would go for the aluminium ones for road and track mixed use.

I have aluminium and previously had mags. Aluminium is the way forward for longevity and weight similar I think. Also, at least it was the case, aluminium design seemed nicer to me.

On the larger cup fronts, I think these can go on the 8" rims. I have used them and I imagine I specced standard size rims. Actaully Tom Schitz ordered them for me at "spezial price" when I bought my RS.

And you fell for that Jimmy? Tom the used car salesman cons another one! ;O)

Absolutely! I love reading Tom's adverts also. Always good cars with plenty of hyperbole to go with that

i need some help for this questions....

Somebody nows what is the ideal offset for this wheels?

I m thinking to buy a E88 with center in gold, with 8/18 and 10/18 size, its that the ideal dimension?

Where is the best place to buy?

Jose / KJ,

Last time I checked BBS were in receivership for at least the 3rd time. This was only a matter of months ago. There was hope that a rescue package was being put together. I don't know whether this has happened or not. I would do some checking to make sure that BBS are trading and what the waiting list is like before moving any money.

What Paul H says is absolutely correct - not TUV approved for road use.

I also understand that the magnesium centres are no longer available so aluminium it is.

Unless you like spending hours buffing, you should consider stripping the wheels apart and having the polished outer shoulders lightly anodised. Doesn't cost too much about 15gbp per rim and makes keeping them tidy alot easier.

If you have the tech manual, the offset will be in there. I'll dig mine out and let you know if you are struggling. Or somebody else will pipe up shortly.

Cheers.

I have a set of BBS race rims, in standard RS sizes, painted silver, if anyone is interested. The rims have been anodised. Hairline cracks on the rear spiders. Gert at Carnewal has quoted €1,800 for new aluminium spiders all round, incl gaskets and bolts. The new price for Aluminium BBS wheels from Gert is €3,600, so if you want to go this way it may be cheaper to buy new spiders and I'll sell my wheels for substantially less than €3,600 - €1,800!
