i have a 986 with the Becker 6600 amp which has an intermittent issue where sometimes the sound works other times no sound. does anyone know which component needs replacing please don’t want to to replace for another one 2nd hand at a cost of £420 if the same is going to happen

What year is your car, and do you have a radio or PCM? Also, is it the option code 490 or 680 amplifier? (See sticker in Maintenance book or on the underside of the front compartment lid).

Thanks. If it had been the option 680 amp with PCM there was a software update for sporadic sound failure, but if yours is 490 with radio/CD then it won't help.

£420 seems a lot. Try www.boxsterbits.co.uk. Send him an email or phone, as they don't list everything on the site. I would expect it to cost half that.

I have just bought a 2003 S with a blown amp (which I knew about) and am having my Alpine Bluetooth/USB/Aux Head unit fitted with a new a wiring harness through the bulkhead to bypass the amp to the speakers, they will also fit my 'phone microphone into the binnacle.
They have estimated a cost of £100-200 to do the work as I already have the head unit

It is being done by MAS audio in Northants:

He seems to be a 1-man band, but seems to know his stuff and he documents a lot of his work on his Facebook page:

Mine is going in on Monday and he pinged me today to say that he has found a standard loom to do the amp bypass which will make it simpler/quicker/cheaper, he will also make sure that mine has the wiring in ready to add an aftermarket amp later so that I can use the Bose Sub I have behind the seats. I can't afford to do it this month on top of the service/brakes etc.

£2,000 sounds waaaaay over the top unless that includes top of the range Head Unit, Amp, Speakers and Sub - I would expect £300-500 depending on Head Unit quality for a straight Head unit swap and amp bypass
