Becker CDR 23 problem

I have a problem with my CD player which often refuses to eject CD's or Play and comes up with the message "STOP" in the display. It also makes a clicking noise sometimes.
Has anyone encountered this and is there anywhere in the UK that can repair them. I have been informed Becker stopped making them many years ago and it will probably be cheaper to replace with a modern unit. However it will not fit in with the general panel as well and I would prefer to keep the Becker.

I suspect it is the CD drive failing. Does it do it with shop-bought CDs as well as home-burned ones?

I don't think there are many people who can repair them, but you could try:

Hi Chris.
It might come out when its cooled down.
Mine did this once in my 996 4s left it until the next day and it ejected.

The unit in my previous 986 did this, sometimes it would turn on but there would be no sound. The only way to solve it was to turn off the ignition, lock the car then unlock & start up. The unit would be fine for a few weeks & would then repeat the problem.

I never got around to solving the issue as the car got written off.

Thanks for the info. It has been an intermittent problem for a while, and the same with original and burned CD's.

I think like Richard says it is the CD player, and I have contacted Maple Audio who confirm they can repair them most of the time and it is probably the CD laser drive. They think if I remove it from the car it should not set off alarm and car will not be immobilised, but can anyone confirm this? as I don't want to take it out and not be able to use the car.

Yes, you can take it out without affecting the immobiliser. You will get a single beep from the alarm horn when you lock the car, but that's all.

You'll need a set of Becker keys to get the unit out, but you can get them on eBay for a couple of quid.
