BECKER OR SOMETHING ELSE?

Hi All,

I'm thinking about fitting a Becker CDR 22 to my 95 Carrera 2.

Has anyone done this or does anyone have info on the subject?

Thanks

In Tequipment brochure for 993 I found a sat-nav system (Called Porsche Traffic Pro) which looks exactly like Becker Traffic pro system (no surprise)... So I would assume that Traffic pro should fit OK the 993...

I am aslo thinking of putting sat-nav from Becker to my 993 and it seams that old Traffic pro was substituted by current Indeanopolis (looks almost the same with some "face lift").

I've got a Becker Online-pro fitted (it adds a GPS phone and an SD slot for mp3's to the sat nav etc). It needed an external stub aerial, but was fitted in a couple of hours by an ICE specialist. It blends well into the dash and the amber backlight matches the dash lights. I bought it on e-bay so didn't pay the rather steep new price.

You can get a zero degree faceplate for the CDR22 from Becker in the USA. From a email yesterday:

THE PART IS $200 SHIPPING IS $70.00.

Thanks for all the info.

I've gone for a Becker Traffic Pro 4724.

I'm abroad with work right now so when I'm home in a few weeks and have installed it I'll let you know any problems encountered.

fugaziops, I hope it goes o.k., I'd certainly be interested to hear if you have any problems, for the time being I'm sticking with the Becker CDR-210 I found on eBay, plus an iPod transmitter (Griffin RoadTrip 4031 - FM Transmitter & Charger), plus portable satnav as I have three cars, none with oem satnav.

To all who was interested...
I have just installed Becker Indianapolis Pro 7950 in my 993. Absolutely no problem with reading the display... The unit fits perfectly. The quality of sound is actually better than my previous original CDR-22...[:)]

I too have recently installer a becker indianapolis pro 7950 and I'd totally recommend it. Looks the part - nice traditional look with knobs you can turn. Very intuitive to use. Phone module intergated with my bluetooth phone very easily and works perfectly with all other features - and the mic is really good quality. I also bought the iPod connector and now have my entire music collection on tap in my car.

Only two downsides:
1) iPod integration lets you hide it in glove box and use the knobs on the becker. But spinning the knobs through 500 or so albums wears out your fingers a long time before you get to zztop - in does not have the same accelerated-spin feature as the iPod touchwheel does. (So you need to create playlists to segment your music to make them easy to reach)

2)The savnav is (so far as I can see) not able to tell me where speed cameras are. But my concern about the small screen area was unjustified. Makes you realise how pointless the animated map is on tomtom. Finds more sensible routes than tomtom.

I bought very early Griffin road trip FM transmitter as I did not wish to change becker but not too impressed with the sound quality - picks up surrounding sounds from the 993 which is intrusive and power is always running out...friend has a.n. other transmitter which he says is fantastic as it has a stronger signal ...how do you find the 4031 with the charger, do you get a decent connection to the lighter socket??

I also fitted the Becker Indianapolis around 2 years ago and can echo the comments on the sound quality and the function of the Sat Nav, integration with phone kit etc. Family have tried several stand alone sat nav systems and none live up to the Becker. Expensive but worth every penny.

I found a cheap solution to the Ipod question - I simply bought a mini jack cable from a hi fi store and connected it into the Aux port on the back of the Becker. The mini jack cable comes out under the ash tray and I can simply connect the cable into the ear phone socket of the ipod and use the ash tray as the ipod cradle. I tend to use the ipod on shuffle and this arrangement is very neat and works extremely well

thanks for that I think I will give it a go ...anything is better than having the Ipod aqnd not using it ...

cheers

Mark, where did you istall the GPS antenna for your Indianapolis? The only place the guys from the service could offer me was on the top of the dashboard... I asked them to hide it under the dash, but they said it was not possible...
Is there any other solution?

Thank you

How did you wire it to Aux ???

Becker in US sell a kit to wire it up however your solution sounds as if it is more elegant in that it uses less connections and is more straight forward... appreciate if you could advise how you did it i.e. what pins did you wire to ??

cheers

Same problem. I asked them to install it under the front PU (ie immedaitely behind the number plate ) because this is not shielded by any metal. (At least one other person on this forum has done this - but I forget who). But they said that needed a special "weather proof" antenna , which they could get but I'd have to wait for it to be ordered and that every other customer had been happy with it hidden behind the tax disk. (I only mentioned this when they just started the fitting process...). (My audio company's "every other customer" does not mean your average clio driver - there was a bently and an aston in there at the time)

Anyway, it is well hidden right up against the tax disk and is very neat - I've already forgotten about it. It is small, black and neat and they have completely hidden the cable. About size of a small matchbox.

They said on a 996 they do put inside the dash, but the 993 has more structure in there and shields the antenna too much.
