Bedding in new front discs

Hi

Just fitted a new set of front discs to my 1990 C4.

Seeing as the Pagid blues had plenty of life left in them I left these in rather than splash out on a new pair.

Can someone clarify how I should bed the new discs in, to the old pads.

I've done about 1000 mile since fitting, the pads are not touching the outside edge of the discs as much as everywhere else but I assume this is because I didn't use new pads. Oh and the pads squeal like a virgin on the new discs.

How many miles do I need to cover before I can use the brakes to the full potential.

Thanks

Rob

If it had been me(and I like the idea of saving money)I would have cleaned up the pads by carefully rubbing themdown on coarse production paper on top of a piece of glass.;providing they were worn evenly. They could be tapered now so you will not get correct contact.
If everything is ok otherwise, you need to perform several highspeed stops in quick succession to bed them to the discs.

Thanks Gents

I thought new discs, new pads was the rule, but spending an additional £150-175 for a new set of pads when the others have only covered 2.5k and 2 trackdays broke my heart and I thought I may be able to get away with it seeing as the pads are so aggressive on the discs.

I'll give the highspeed stops a try before I splash out!

Hi Rob,

I don't want to steal your thread, but can you tell me what was involved in changing your front disks and how long it took you, as i meed to do this on my C4.
