'beep' help. Boxster back after drivetrain disaster!

Hello all. We recently got our Boxster back after a catastrophic failure of the gearbox and flywheel. That was very expensive, but we're back on track again now. What I wondered if anyone could help me with a niggling litttle thing... Now and then when I press the button to lock the alarm, the car will beep once - most of the time it doesn't. Any ideas? I don't have a manual to look up I'm afraid!

Thanks.

PS - John, we should definately make it to the next Ace Cafe meet now!

Something is open. Probably the centre console locker. It's easy to hit it with your elbow.

(A beep indicates an error)

A manual is available from Porsche - it's only a £10 or so. Well worth it [:)]

Normally, the "beep" means that the system has detected something not fully closed, such as a door, boot lid, cubby box, filler flap etc.

I guess if everything is closed, it could be a faulty microswitch.

Good luck![:)]

Thanks for your help guys.

RE the gearbox problems.. We bought the Boxster from Virgin 911 a few months ago, and during the Sales patter they told us we wouldn't have to spend a penny on it, it was in such good condition. It had just been serviced and the last guy spent thousands on it etc etc. I signed the waiver saying I didn't want the warranty - what was the point? It was in such good condition!! (I know, I know). We started hearing odd noises during gear selection, and the occasional clattering noises when driving, but we pretended there wasn't a problem because it was new and we didn't want anything to go wrong. Then we did a track day as part of the build-up to the 'Cannonball 8000' rally we're doing in September in our old 911. I only went out on the track a few times before the noises started to get worse, so I decided not to continue and drove home. The next day, the gearbox had completely seized up and it had to be towed back. Jaz did the work in the end and replaced the gearbox, flywheel, and clutch. Virgin paid for just over a quarter of the work in the end, claiming that the fault was down to me track daying it. I think that there was something intrinsically wrong with the car when we bought it, although I admit that the track day accelerated the failure happening.

I guess all members better stop track daying their cars in that case, what a load of b*****s!!![] And coming from a company that races Porsches ON TRACKS, not impressed.

I have to agree - these cars can take it.

Sorry to hear about the drive train, but back to the original question, what are the causes of this beep:-

1) Glovebox
2) Drive door
3) Passenger door
4) Fuel cap
5) Bonnet
6) Boot

Have I missed any?

Regards
